With its 6-cylinder, 160bhp engine, pared down styling and all-black colour scheme, the 2017 BMW K1600B is quite the business. We think it's super cool!

BMW have unveiled their all-new K1600B Bagger, which is based on the K1600GT touring bike and is powered by the same 160-horsepower 1600cc inline-six engine. In fact, the K1600B is the production-spec version of the Concept 101 which BMW had shown at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este last year. “In design terms, the new all-black K1600B takes the form of a bagger, an exclusive custom bike type that is particularly popular in the USA. The characteristic properties of the bagger are its drop-shaped silhouette, whose highest point is the front fairing, the stretched drop-like silhouette in a 'streamlining' style and the deep-set side cases with integrated American-style rear lights. New fully chrome-plated silencers run parallel to the road and are an organic fit for the visual appeal of the bagger," says a press release from BMW.

While the K1600B is largely based on the same mechanical package as the K1600GT, the former uses a new sub-frame at the back for its completely redesigned, backwards-sloping rear end. The slim sidecases are all new, while the rear mudguard has also been designed to fold upwards, which makes it easier to remove the rear wheel. The K1600B's compact new windscreen looks good and gets redesigned wind deflectors, which have been stretched further back, for more effective wind protection.

BMW's electronically adjustable 'Dynamic ESA' suspension, with automatic damping adaptation, is standard fitment on the 1600B, which also gets two riding modes - road and cruise. In road mode, damping adaptation is fully automated, offering the highest levels of comfort and traction, while cruise mode is more comfort oriented. A new ' reverse assist pro' feature makes it easier for riders to deal with the bike's heft while backing it out of their driveway or a parking lot, 'shift assistant pro' allow clutchless gear changes (both upshifts and downshifts) and the feet-forward position of the bike's foot rests make for a riding position that's been optimised for long-distance comfort.

With 160bhp at 7,750rpm and 175Nm of torque at 5250rpm, the new BMW K1600B has plenty of oomph to propel its substantial weight (BMW have not provided any figures for the bike's weight but we're sure it won't be very light...). And taking a step forward towards improved rider safety, BMW are also offering their 'Intelligent Emergency Call' system as an ex-works option on the K1600B, though only in European markets where ConnectedDrive is available. We think the K1600B is damn cool, though we still wonder if BMW will unveil a VMAX-rivalling, 200bhp K1600R at the EICMA this year...?
