If you really wanted to, we suppose you could ride across Africa on a Peugeot moped. The BMW F800GS Adventure, however, just might be a bit more suited to the task...

Based on the off-road-oriented F800GS, the new BMW F800GS Adventure takes things a bit further and, according to BMW, offers “an optimal combination of agility, touring practicality and off-road capability.” The German company claims that the new F800GS Adventure “provides off-road-oriented touring aficionados, world travelers and enduro fans with an authentic GS Adventure experience in the mid-size segment.”

The F800GS Adventure is powered by a liquid-cooled fuel-injected 798cc four-valve twin-cylinder engine (the same engine that you’d find on the F800GS), mated to a 6-speed transmission. With 85 horsepower and 83Nm of torque from the engine, 24-litre fuel tank and a robust tubular-steel chassis, the F800GS Adventure is probably adequately equipped for Continent-crossing journeys. And, of course, it comes with the inevitable suite of electronics – ABS is standard, while stability control (ASC) and electronic suspension adjustement (ESA) are optional extras.

Compared with the regular BMW F800GS, the Adventure version has a bigger fuel tank (which extends range by about 120km), bigger windscreen, revised bodywork, reworked seat that’s been optimized for long-distance comfort, wider ‘enduro’ footrests, an adjustable foot brake lever, an engine protection bar and a pannier rack that serves as a tank protection bar. At 229 kilos (unladen weight), the Adventure is also 15kg heavier than the regular model.
