Here's what you need to know about the 2012 F4 R Corsa Corta: 192kg (dry weight), 195 horsepower, 298km/h top speed and 18,800 Euro price tag. Yeah, we want one!

MV Agusta have unveiled their new weapon for 2012 litre-class superbike wars – the F4 R Corsa Corta. And even if it does look like a regular F4, the Corsa Corta is fitted with MV’s revised 998cc inline-four with radial valves, low-inertia crankshaft and super oversquare bore and stroke ratio. Using a bore of 79mm and a stroke of 50.9mm, this engine has a rev limit of 13,700rpm and produces an almighty 195 horsepower at 13,000rpm and 112Nm of torque at 9,100rpm.

The 2012 F4 Corsa Corta’s engine is fitted with titanium valve and the cylinder head uses completely new ports and employs larger valves, both on the inlet and exhaust. And the revised exhaust system is not only significantly more efficient, it also produces all the right, loud noises – the kind you’d expect from a top-of-the-line Italian superbike.

Other enhancements include a cassette-type six-speed gearbox, slipper clutch, revised fuel-injection system and a revised traction control system that employs a new algorithm and has two rider selectable engine maps. The chassis is still MV Agusta’s traditional hybrid unit, mating a tubular steel trellis structure with cast aluminium side-plates for optimum balance and rigidity. The bike also retains a single-side swingarm, which still looks super-cool after all these years.

As you would expect, the MV Agusta F4 R Corsa Corta is fitted with top-spec suspension components – 50mm Marzocchi USD forks and Sachs monoshock with nitrogen reservoir, both being fully adjustable. The rear shock linkage also allows the ride height to be adjusted, depending on the desired setup and rider preferences, to further tune the bike to specific riding conditions and tracks. Brakes are by Bembo, with twin 320mm discs and monobloc radial-mount callipers at the front, and single 220mm disc and single four-piston calliper at the rear.

MV have launched the F4 R Corsa Corta in Europe and the bike bears a price tag of 18,800 Euros in Italy. For a machine that’s one of the most beautiful motorcycles ever built anywhere in the world – and in the case of the F4 R Corsa Corta, also one that weighs 192 kilos and has a ridiculous top speed of 297.6km/h – that’s a small price to pay.
