Apart from the sheer visual spectacle – the photographs are usually pretty interesting – superbike vs supercar shootouts can actually be a bit boring, simply because they’re predictable. Most of the time, the verdict is that the bike accelerates harder, the car can brake later and corner harder, and top speed is about the same. There may be a few variations, but the underlying theme remains the same for most bike vs car shootouts.

To help Yamaha celebrate their 50th year in GP racing, former world champions Kenny Roberts Sr., Eddie Lawson and Wayne Rainey will put in a special appearance at this year’s US MotoGP at Laguna Seca. Kenny Roberts Sr., who won the 500cc motorcycle GP racing world championships in 1978, 79 and 80, is later scheduled to ride a demonstration lap aboard his 1979 title-winning YZR500.
Here’s a bunch of pics from the Rayong Province, Thailand. Two friends are out riding their bikes, but not just any old bikes – we’re talking Honda VTR1000 SP2 and the Honda NR750! ‘Given its year of manufacture , the NR still feels fresh and capable, though a tad heavy. It was happy to cruise at around 140km/h with spurts of up to 200km/h. Brakes are sharp and the chassis is more stable than flickable. It isn't an RC30, let alone a modern sportsbike, but it’s an enjoyable bike to ride on a Saturday morning cruise and its able enough that you don't need to make excuses for its performance in the company of the SP2,’ says the guy who owns the NR.

According to the European Transport Safety Council, the danger of a fatal accident, for the same distance travelled, is 18 times higher for motorcyclists than for car drivers. In 2009, more than 5,000 motorcyclists were killed on Europe's roads alone. And according to various scientific studies conducted over the last few years, anti-lock brakes (ABS) provide the greatest safety gain for motorcycles. A study conducted in Sweden in 2009 confirmed that up to 38 percent of all accidents involving personal injury and 48 percent of all serious and fatal accidents could be prevented with the help of ABS.

Troy Bayliss admits he postponed getting a vasectomy for years, because he was scared of losing his 'killer instinct.' Now, he's been snipped and is fast as ever...
Australian motorcycle racer, Troy Bayliss, who raced in MotoGP and World Superbikes between 1997-2008, and who won the World Superbikes championship in 2001, 2006 and 2008, retired at the end of the 2008 WSBK season. And like some of his fellow ex-racers, he can’t seem to stay retired. Now 42 years old, Bayliss stays race-fit by riding a bicycle for up to 150km a day (!) and, back in 2010, he even made an announcement about making a comeback with his former employers, Ducati. Bayliss didn’t ultimately come back to professional motorcycle racing, though he hasn’t stopped thinking about it yet.

The German-owned Swedish company, which has its headquarters in Italy, makes some really good, hard-edged off-road bikes – some of the best in the world, in fact. And with the 2012 Nuda 900R, Husqvarna are on their way to proving that they can also build a rocking streetbike.

The Golden Era Superbikes series will herald the return of 750cc superbikes of the 1980s and 1990s to UK racetracks. Yes! Awesome!!!
Good news for those with fond memories of bikes like the Ducati 851/888, Kawasaki ZXR750/ZX-7R, Yamaha OW 01/YZF750, Honda RC30/RC45 and the Suzuki GSX-R750 SRAD. Next year, the UK-based Thundersport plan to introduce the Golden Era Superbikes series, where all these machines, as well as 1000cc twins like the Suzuki TL1000S and Honda VTR1000 will be eligible to participate.
Who needs a motorcycle so big and heavy, it comes fitted with an electronically actuated reverse gear?! Some do, apparently, so the Gold Wing has a reverse gear...
Honda, which launched the very first Gold Wing touring bike back in 1975, has just announced the 2012 version. The bike keeps its 1.8-litre six-cylinder fuel-injected engine and box-section aluminium chassis, and new bits include a revised fairing, improved six-speaker audio system, a more efficient and accurate satellite navigation system and latest-generation anti-lock brakes (ABS). There’s even an optional airbag system on the bike, which boosts rider safety by another notch.
