Scorpion Performance: The supercharged, 90bhp Cagiva Mito

With its 200cc two-stroke supercharged engine, which makes 90 horsepower, the Scorpion Performance is the Cagiva Mito from hell...

Simone Barbagallo has given quite a makeover to the stylish little Cagiva Mito. It has taken four years of hard work and it has cost him more than US$55,000 (not including the cost of the original bike) to build his bike – which he’s named Scorpion Performance – but the results seem worth it.

Barbagallo started with a basic Mito, with a 125cc, two-stroke engine that only produced 15bhp. The engine capacity was then increased to 200cc and a supercharger and NOS system were fitted to the bike. The Scorpion Performance Mito now packs 90 horsepower, which should be absolutely awesome in a machine that still only weighs 100 kilos!

The Scorpion is loaded with various trick bits – a stiff and lightweight single-sided swingarm, 17-inch Marchesini forged magnesium wheels, a digital instrument panel, 50mm USD Marzocchi fork, uprated Brembo brakes, 40mm Keihin carb, carbonfibre bodywork, Pirelli Diablo slicks and… we could go on for another 5,000 words but you get the idea.

Why spend so much money on such a small sportsbike? Well, Barbagallo says he believes that sometimes, “an ant can defeat an elephant.” He says his bike is simply perfect and can take on many bigger sportsbikes, which are simply too big and too heavy for their full potential to be used on the street. Hmmm, that’s certainly some food for thought…

Make, model Roots blower...anything wolud be helpful. i have been unable to find anything for < 1liter engines

Your blog is very very rich with pictures and information about almost everything on two wheels! I love it for that and read it as a newspaper almost everyday. But I would like to see some info and appreciation for whatever is going on in the green transportation area also. Team Agni, an Indian-English team recently won TTXGP, world's first electric GP at Isle of Man with noticeable performance. I would have liked to see something about that on this blog also.

This is the type of bike that the Main manufacturers should make.

We are getting to the point that having 170-190 hp with a contact patch of rubber the size of 2 credit cards is sometimes too much. YES its great when your upright, full throttle on the track, but when you are cranked over on the road, having less is sometimes more.

When Honda built the first VF400R bike I bought one, and many times I beat bigger bikes by using the faster corner speeds and at the next traffic lights they would pull up and ask me loads of questions about my bike, as they thought it was a toy until I showed them.

I am still very very skeptical about this bikes power claims...

just because nobody has ever seen a dyno chart and info is very scarse.

the reasons for my skepticism.

1. the bike apears to have a four stroke exhaust (no stinger).

2. I dont know of any 200cc four stroke that makes 90hp with or without chemical or mechanical supercharging.

3. unless it is a 1-off billet engine, I dont think a 200cc four stroke exists that can handle that kind of power.

my other reasons for being a skeptic is that it is the same story and photos on every single website...
Iv done some asking around on many forums and nobody has seen this bike in the flesh or even pictures from a bike show...

bit odd dont you think?

so my question is...

is it a performance exageration?
or is this person a contender for photoshoper of the year?

After some more research I've found that the bike is running a polini big bore kit on a standard mito bottom end.

I am definitely calling B.S on the 90hp claims.

1. a polini cylinder would fail if subjected to that kind of pressure

2 the mito bottom end would fail

3 the piston would melt if you applied that much pressure and NO2.
(look at 125gp with just 50hp, the piston dome begins to 'slump' after 1 session...

thats my opinion... Lets see if anyone can produce a dyno graph

I have a mito 125 2005 plate, new engine rebuild with everything upgraded to racing version plus performance exhaust an filter, it has now increased this full power from 33bhp full power to 40bhp.
If there is a supercharger for these bike where can i get 1 plz thx

There's no way that bike is 90bhp and I dout it has a supercharger fitted is a nice looking cagiva tho would be intresting to see if the owner can produce a dyno chart must have had it on a rolling road to get this 90bhp figure
