Valentino Rossi is motivated by Jorge Lorenzo’s performance

In his very first MotoGP season, Jorge Lorenzo has made a massive impression...

With his impressive performance in his very first MotoGP season, Jorge Lorenzo is, apparently, also motivating The Doctor to try harder and do better. His earlier teammate, Texan Colin Edwards was never really much of a competitor for Rossi, but Lorenzo is a different story altogether.

‘It is a different situation to have such a fast teammate, who is very strong. I think he will be a good rival for the future. But to have a fast rider on the same bike is also motivation to try and be better,’ said Rossi, speaking to MCN. The Doctor also said that the fact that he and Lorenzo are riding on different tyres only makes things more interesting.

Rossi also concedes that Lorenzo’s coming into MotoGP has made his job even tougher. ‘It is like always. You need to make a great, great effort. And this year, maybe even more, because I have a new and young rival. So I have to try even harder to stay on top,’ said the five-time MotoGP world champ.

In the meanwhile, Rossi isn’t the only one impressed with Jorge Lorenzo – Yamaha are also happy with the young Spaniard. Which is why they’ve just released the Jog RR Lorenzo Race Replica scooter. The little scoot weighs just 79kg, and is fitted with a two-stroke, single-cylinder, 50cc engine that makes 2.8 horsepower.
