Yes, these are the first official pics of the 2008 KTM range – the 690 SMR, the much-awaited 690 Duke, 690 Enduro and the 690 SMC. All the four bikes use KTM's 654cc, fuel-injected single-cylinder ‘LC4’ engine, which makes 65bhp.

The 690 Duke is fitted with a chrome-molybdenum tubular space frame that’s light and rigid, a one-piece, aluminium die-cast swingarm, and WP suspension components – 48mm USD fork at front, fully adjustable monoshock at the rear, with a Pro-Lever linkage system. The suspension has been tuned for high-performance street riding. Brakes are Brembo units – 320mm floating disc, with radially mounted four-piston calipers at front, 240mm disc with single-piston caliper at the rear.

While the 690 Duke has, perhaps, been the most eagerly awaited new KTM, the all-new 690 SMR is no less radical and exciting. With its edgy, convention-challenging styling and high-spec components, it’ll probably offer supermoto performance that may be hard to match. Like the Duke, the SMR is also fitted with a chrome-molybdenum tubular space frame, WP suspension components, Brembo brakes and KTM’s ‘APTC’ anti-hopping clutch.

More details on pricing and availability, soon.

single cylinder supermotos seem to be the urban sports bike for the future. Because of traffic congestion, anti-speed regulations and high strung superbike engines with dips and punches in the torque curves they won't be viable any more to a powerbiker who also wants to use his bike for daily commuting around the city. While with supermotos you apparently can have as much fun at 60 kph as you would have at 260 kph on a GSX-R750. The KTM looks mighty radical now but this desin would look corny 20 years down the line while the Ducati Hypermotard is a graceful timeless beauty. All I can say is Ducati should detune their old Supermono single cylinder race engines , Fit a supercharger on it gving somehwere between 6-8 psi boost and transplant this engine into the Chassis of the Hypermotard...we would have an instant classic at around 9000 euros and Ducati should be able to sell Thirty to forty thousand units
of it per annum world wide

the 690 Duke may have been the most awaited, but for me it's the 690 SMR that's the most rocking bike here. it looks totally HOT and should be a blast to ride. I'm almost tempted to start lookig for a buyer for my 2004 Yam R6 and get this KTM!~ :)

KTM is now making some really HOT bikes I must say. the SMR looks amazing, I'd love to have one m'self. But then the RC8 should be even more of a rocketship! can't wait to see that bike on the street- should put the fear of god into R1, Ninja and CBR Fireblade owners. hah!
