Carl Fogarty dumps plans of 2008 WSBK comeback

Carl Fogarty won't be running the MV Agusta team in World Superbikes in 2008 due to lack of sponsorship money...

Earlier this year, we had reported that Carl Fogarty would be running the MV Agusta factory-supported team in World Superbikes, in 2008. Well, that isn’t going to happen after all – Foggy has been unable to find sponsorship and would hence be unable to run the MV team in WSBK.

Says Fogarty, ‘Everyone knows that this is a difficult time for motorcycle sponsorship. However, we hoped that the combination of my team with an iconic brand such as MV Agusta would have been an attractive proposition for potential sponsors both in the UK and abroad. Regrettably, despite the enormous excitement generated amongst motorcycle fans, this has not proved to be the case, leading us to the conclusion that the market will not support a professionally-run outfit of our size without significant financial input from a manufacturer. So I have decided to bring this chapter of my career to an end by putting our state-of-the-art facility at Burton, our race trailer and hospitality unit up for sale.’

What happens to MV's WSBK ambitions now...?

Mr Fogarty, who once claimed he was going to be the 'saviour' of World Superbikes, also has the unique distinction of having been voted as one of the biggest idiots in motorcycling by the readers of Bike magazine in the UK. The four-time WSBK world champion and Isle of Man winner says he will now explore other options inside as well as outside the motorcycle industry…

carl foggy can sod off, who cares about this man anymore..! and anyway, MV Agusta bikes are only good at looking good, I don't think they would be winning any races against Ducati or the Japs! :o)

well, carl was great in the 1990s when he was racing for ducati. now he's just a has-been and not a very nice one at that. Given his track record with petronas, I don't think he would done well in WSBK with MV Agusta. good riddance!

carl fogarty? who's he, exactly? don't remember having heard of him.

On second thoughts, could he possibly be the same man who once claimed he's more famous than Barry Sheene in England? Poofter!

Sad to read that there won't be any factory backed MV Agustas racing in the WSBK in 2008.Just another instance when MV Agusta raised the hopes of the biking entusiasts' to sky high levels only to let it come down crashing and burning....I remember back in early 2004 or late 2003 in an interview to Overdrive India Massimo Tamburini said the possibility of MV Agusta going MotoGP
Racing very soon was around 70 percent...He even showed Roland Brown oncept photos of the steel trellis frame and bodywork and the blueprint of the inline 3 cyclinder (or was it V3?) engines...I was confident that by the end of the next season MV Agustas would be constantly competing for top 10 or top 15 positions since the Fast by Ferraci MVs finished 7th and 8th and the VIR Round of the AMA SBK series...Claudio Castiglioni sold Husqvarna for 93 million euros to BMW and before that MV Agusta group attracted around 110 million euros of investment from Proton..So may be MV Agusta itself could fund the team...or may be not since making production superbikes that can compete with the Japanese requires colossal amounts of R&D investments and consequently no surplus money for the race team..every body knows
Castiglioni is a bike nut to the core who will spend his last penny for motorcycle R&D. and WSBK is not
as cheap as it used to be. Gone are the days when a top works team could do th whole season for 4-5 million even the best privateer squads have a budget of E 5 million. Aprilia would spend 8 million euro on their V4 race engine development before they go racing and then they would have around 10-15 million euros of budget per annum..(according to statements given by Aprlia to Superbike magazine)

BMW is now making some of the hottest bikes in the world..! I loved the HP2 Megamoto and this new HP2 Sport is just so cool. The blue and white paint scheme, the single side swingarm and even that black painted boxer engine look so incredibly hot! I LOVE this bike.... Hoo hoo! ;)
